❌ 1) RESEARCH THE HISTORY OF GEOCACHING.
✅ 2) LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT CACHE TYPES - TRADITIONAL, MULTI, MYSTERY, VIRTUAL, EARTH, LETTERBOX, ADVENTURE LABS, WHERIGO AND PUZZLE.
❏ Multi - involves two or more locations, each location will give a clue for the next, container will be at final location
❓Mystery - you have to solve a puzzle in order to get the coordinates to the final location
👻 Virtual - find a location rather than a container, and to log the cache you have to do something like answer a question about the location or take a picture of something specific
🌍 Earth - at a special geographic location where you can learn about a unique feature of the Earth, and to log the cache, you have to answer a set of questions about the geological location
📩 Letterbox - uses clues instead of coordinates to find a container inside a letterbox, and caches are logged with a stamp kept inside the letterbox
📍 Adventure Labs - a treasure hunt connected by clues in one specific place, not looking for a container but a series of places to answer questions about that place
➤ Whereigo - using 'cartridges' to play GPS enabled adventures in the real world, can interact with physical and virtual elements while finding the geocache container
🧩 Puzzle - similar to a mystery cache
✅ 3) USE A GEOCACHING APP OR WEBSITE TO FIND OUT HOW MANY GEOCACHES ARE IN YOUR LOCAL AREA.
✅ 4) OVER A THREE MONTH PERIOD FIND AT LEAST EIGHT DIFFERENT CACHES.
On a route around Halesworth, we found 11 geocaches.
✅ 5) COMPLETE A LINKED SERIES OF AT LEAST FOUR GEOCACHES.
✅ 6) LEAVE AN ITEM IN A GEOCACHE WHICH USES SWAPS.
I found a few 'swap' geocaches while walking around Yoxford. I made two swaps - a small badge for a panda finger puppet, and a lego keyring for a bear finger puppet.
❌ 7) FIND A TRACKABLE GEOCACHE (TRAVEL BUG), LOG IT, AND MOVE IT ON.
✅ 8) LEARN ABOUT THE GUIDELINES FOR SETTING A GEOCACHE.
⏣ Find at least 20 caches before thinking about hiding one
⏣ Obey local laws (do not put a cache anywhere where someone might need to trespass to find it)
⏣ Get permission from landowner to place cache there
⏣ Choose a good location, not too near other geocaches (must be at least 0.1 miles apart)
⏣ The cache should be intended to have a long life
⏣ Caches should be available most of the time
⏣ Don't bury the cache or dig a hole to put them in
⏣ Don't damage property to hide the cache
⏣ Don't harm the planet, animals, or the environment
⏣ Choose the container wisely (must be big enough for a logbook and be waterproof)
⏣ Do not put anything illegal or dangerous in the cache, or anything edible, meltable, or liquids
⏣ Must be suitable for all ages
⏣ Find an accurate GPS location to publish on the website
⏣ Place the cache close to home so that you can maintain it

✅ 11) ON A MAP, LOCATE THE OLDEST CACHE IN THE WORLD, AND THE OLDEST CACHE IN YOUR COUNTRY.
The oldest Geocache in the world is found in Kansas, USA, and was placed on 11th May 2000.
The first Geocache placed in the UK was on 6th June 2000, in Berrylands in Surrey, but it's no longer active.
The current oldest active Geocache in the UK is in Scotland, which was placed on 15th December 2000.
The current oldest Geocache in England is on Coombe Hill, Buckinghamshire, and was placed on 14th January 2001.
✅ 12) ATTEND OR ORGANISE A MEET UP FOR GEOCACHERS.
On 26th March 2023, I went on a geocaching adventure with 3 other Rebels around Halesworth. We walked a route and found all 11 caches.
❌ 13) INTRODUCE A GROUP OF FRIENDS TO GEOCACHING AND GO ON A HUNT WITH THEM.
❌ 14) CREATE A PRESENTATION ABOUT YOUR GEOCACHE FINDS WHICH MIGHT ENCOURAGE SOMEONE TO TRY GEOCACHING.
